Thirteen Bettendorf High School students earned honors for high achievement in Le Grand Concours, the National French Contest. Le Grand Concours is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Students test at different levels and can earn state as well as national placement and awards.

In the state of Iowa:

  • Level 2E* – Sabrina Rinehart placed 1st, Jensen Tatton placed 2nd, Katie Roseman placed 3rd.
  • Level 3 – Emma Cleveland placed 4th. Emma also placed 15th nationally and will be awarded a bronze medal.
  • Level 3E* – Zander Eckermann placed 1st, Stephanie Rice and Rachel Witt tied for 2nd, Emily Sparks placed 3rd.
  • Level 5 – Alicia Garcia placed 5th, Sarah Canfield and Elise Kalin tied for 7th, Peter Hurd placed 8th, Eric Eastland placed 10th.

*Level E indicates that the student has completed that level of French, but at the time of the Concours had not been in French class due to block scheduling.
Nine other students placed in the top 20 for Iowa.

In the contest, students of French in grades 1-12, in all 50 states and abroad, take a written test and compete against students with similar educational backgrounds for prizes. Students enter through their French teacher.
